Japanese Embroidery is the Love of My Hand Sewing Life

For some reason, whenever I am having a hard time, I am introduced to a new hand sewing technique that changes my life. This past month, I was introduced to Japanese embroidery. Talk about life altering.

Our teacher showed us a wonderful kimono created using Japanese embroidery. I can only hope I get to be that proficient at the technique. Until then, I will practice. Our teacher also printed a Zerox copy of the stitching techniques. She even showed us a neat trick to threading our needle that involved using tap water on our hands. I didn’t know about this before. I learn something new with every sewing class.

Yet again, sewing with silk proved to be a challenge, but I took it on. I met all kinds of interesting, kindred textiles spirits and I can honestly say my life has improved for the better.
